Voices of the Future

American composer John Cage was not a fan of jazz. He did appreciate one element of it though, namely the fact that all great jazz musicians have their own, instantly recognizable sound. The meaning of sound in this context is not limited to acoustics. The term jazz sound describes a musician’s distinctive character in a broader sense. The 28th year of the Jazz Goes to Town festival bears the name Voices of the Future. We have decided to give more space than previously to the voice as the most natural musical instrument.

The voice to us also symbolizes a personal musical expression. This year’s musicians all represent different approaches to jazz. Some ensembles are more experimental, some draw more on established traditions, but each is unique. This year's festival reflects the ever-evolving nature of music and the ceaseless birth of new musicians who captivate audiences around the world with their own unique voices.
